This web seminar illustrates the design of cast-in-place reinforced concrete shear (structural) walls in low (B) to moderate (C) as well as high (D, E, F) seismic design categories (SDCs). Design is for shear as well as for combined flexure and axial loads. Ordinary shear walls are designed when the SDC is B or C, while special shear walls are designed when the SDC is D, E, or F. Design for flexure and axial loads is illustrated for special shear walls in two different multistory buildings. The requirements of ACI 318-05, as adopted by the 2006 IBC and 2007 CBC are followed throughout. Applicable changes from ACI 318-05 to ACI 318-08 are indicated.
